Testing and Expertise Surveys

On the basis of the Kharkov branch of JSC "UKRNAFTOKHIMPROECT" laboratory for research methods and diagnostics and laboratory for corrosion and materials science were established.

Laboratory for research methods and diagnostics

The list of works:

Non-Destructive Testingof welded joints and base metal:

  • Visual and optical Testing,(VT), including measuring testingperformed with the usage of modern optical, electronic and laser methods of linear and angular values;Ultrasonic testing(UT);
  • Magnetic Testing (MT):one of the variants of the testing is the method of metal magnetic memory which makes it possible to evaluate the stress-strain state of the construction and todetectdangerous defects of welded joints;
  • Penetrant testing(PT);
  • Acoustic emission testing(AT).

    Mechanical testingperformed in manufacturing environment

  • Measurementofbase metal and welded joints hardness, including measurement at the yield point, with theusage ofstatic and dynamic methods;
  • Experimental evaluation of load-carrying capability of the vessels, apparatus and pipelines, which haveunacceptablemechanical and corrosion damages ofconstruction elements.

    Mechanical testingperformed in the laboratory

  • standardized static testing (tension, compression and flexure testing) of metals, alloys, plastic materials, composition and ceramic materials carried out at temperature range from -700 C to +10000 C;
  • mechanical testing of welded joints;
  • flexural impact testingof metals and alloys carried out at temperature range from-650 C to+980 C, includingdetermination ofcriticalbrittletemperature point;
  • determination ofmechanical properties of gasket materials,combinedgaskets;
  • cyclic tests at different temperatures andload conditions of constructional materials, welded joints andnodes of certain construction elements, full-scale objects (cylinders,shut-off and control valves, expansion joints, etc.);
  • determinationof the parameters oflimit state of construction elements, full-scale objects with the usage ofmechanicalor hydraulicloads which can be carried until ruptureoccurrence.

    Production ofinternal reference materials (IRM) of theenterprisefor different types of non-destructive testing.

    Laboratory for corrosion and materials science

    The list of works:

    Making recommendations on structural materials for manufacturing equipment and process piping:

    • testing of metals for resistance to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking;
    • recommendations on the selection of heat treatment for different types of steel in issuing recommendations on equipment manufacturing, research on the effect of heat treatment on the structure of the metal in the structure;
    • unique selection of imported and domestic materials, according to the current regulations, the replacement of imported materials for domestic;
    • definition of the overall corrosion resistance of metals and alloys by the gravimetric method, electrochemical studies of corrosion behavior of metals;
    • determination of the resistance of steels and alloys to pitting corrosion;
    • determination of the resistance of steels and alloys to crevice corrosion;
    • definition of resistance lining materials;
    • the aggressive environments of equipment based on analysis of operating conditions, reference data and questionnaires in order to provide recommendations on construction materials.

    Determine the causes of the destruction of the equipment:

    • examination of corrosion condition of failed equipment;
    • laboratory analysis of the chemical composition of the metal and work environments and determining the nature of destruction;
    • issuance of the causes and nature of the damage.

    Macrostructural metallographic analysis:

    • detection of defects of metallurgical origin, defects in welds, the characteristics of the heat treatment, cracks, tears, incomplete and porosity;
    • hardness of the metal by Rockwell.

    Microstructural metallographic analysis of the base metal and welded joints:

    • analysis of the microstructure of metals;
    • control of non-metallic inclusions;
    • control of the grain;
    • superheat control the microstructure of steel;
    • control of the content of secondary phases;
    • control of ferrite content in austenitic stainless steels and their welded joints;
    • character study of corrosion damage;
    • depth Control decarbonized layer;
    • definition microhardness;
    • non-destructive metallographic condition monitoring of metal on existing equipment;
    • determine the effect of long-term operation of equipment at an elevated temperature on the structural state of the base metal and welded joints.
